ABOUT Ohio Council For Fathers
Rights...
Our main goal is equality in family law. We wish to grow large enough that politicians must listen to us, or face the prospect of losing an election due to our block vote.
This is not an unrealistic objective. However, we are realists. This is an incredible undertaking and will require a tremendous amount of effort from us and you.
Please don't misconstrue our message. We fully support paying custodial parents reasonable amounts of child support. In contrast, a professional athlete paying $5000/mo in child support is simply ludicrous.
Furthermore, we take issue the "adversarial style" system where the State of Ohio actually has financial incentive to bankrupt loving fathers with child support orders that are financially unbearable.
What would we like to accomplish?
-
Legislative change; Present child support statutes are simply unjust.
With the current "adversarial" system in place, the non-custodial parent (mother or father) in many cases bears the entire financial burden of raising their children.
The non-custodial parent paying support and providing medical coverage along with paying the tax dollars on the support payments isn't receiving equitable treatment.
-
Having criminal records expunged in cases where the non custodial
parent met difficult circumstances, fell behind in support, and is now a convicted federal felon as a result of circumstances truly beyond their control.
-
Providing enough resources on this site to enable the Pro Se defendant
to adequately defend themselves in court during legal proceedings. By tracking cases here, hopefully you can learn from our mistakes.
-
To retain legal counsel to assist in presenting resources and possibly
writing a column on this site.
-
Redefining indigence. How many of you have been Pro Se in
proceedings where you faced incarceration for contempt for instance, but were denied legal aid because you "made too much money." Anyone with an exceptionally high support order that results in bankruptcy, is constantly behind in bills, lost their home and lives out of a car IS indigent.
-
Enacting legislation that forces the non custodial parent to pay tax on
child support dollars received. One can hardly argue it's equitable for a non custodial parent to pay $27,000 child support over a 2-3 year period and also have to pay all taxes associated with said payments.
-
To provide the desperately needed moral support to those who have
reached their end and are now considering what was once the incomprehensible, the unimaginable - suicide.
Suicide not out of anger, rage, mental illness or vindictiveness, but rather a conscious choice to be made simply because it's the
only logical choice. You have no more outs. You've lost everything, your job, your home, your car, your children and even the means to support yourself.
As each day passes, the pressure only intensifies. You've stepped through it all using logic. Looking ahead you see a future that offers more of the past, only worse.
We've been there. It's a road well paved by the thousands before you who made that journey and came through by the support of those who
have walked those endless miles in your shoes.
We offer you hope, with that hope you will once again learn to dream. Please call us at 513.662.6237 or email us at admin@ocffr.org.
